Recruiters and employers are looking at your social media profile. Are you keeping it ‘clean’?
Social media is a large part of any young persons life. It’s fair to say most young Australians use their social media pages on a daily basis. It can be a great place to connect with friends and colleagues but there is a fine line as to what you can and cannot post. You need to be aware that your employer or a potential employer is looking at your account/s.
So what do you need to do?
Nobody is telling you that you need to have a completely PG rated social media page but you need to be aware that you are not involving yourself in anything that may be discriminatory or disrespectful to another person. There is a difference between having an opinion and being completely over the top or out of line.
This is the same for photos on your page. Pictures of you or mates mooning the camera are a big no-no as is nudity in general on social media. Inappropriate pictures should also be avoided. This doesn’t mean hide your alcohol in photos…unless you are under-age, by which I mean you should not be drinking anything alcoholic at all. It means having a presentable profile that a person may look at and tell that you are a responsible and capable young adult.
It has happened many times before where people can be exposed for moments of not thinking correctly. It is for this reason you should not jeopardize your career or potential future career with inappropriate postings.
Remember it is ok to have fun and a laugh but also take accountability in keeping a ‘clean’ social media page.
